In general, the foundation funds projects that bolster programs tackling climate change and oil and gas development; foster environmental stewardship; and promote clean-energy development at scale and at policy level. Projects must be innovative, have measurable results, and respond to a community or regional need. We are most interested in making grants to organizations that identify and work on the root causes of problems, with a commitment to long-term change. We look for programs with a provocative direct-action agenda for change and a strategic plan for achieving the organization's goals, buttressed by strong community support.
The Environment Foundation is unique in the ski industry: employee contributions are matched by the Aspen Skiing Company Family Fund and the Aspen Community Foundation. A board of directors, comprised of Aspen Skiing Company employees, governs the foundation and decides which projects to fund. More than 1,600 employees contribute annually.
