Now through August 26th, join local studio, Shakti Shala for the ultimate mind, body, spirit infusion atop Aspen mountain — yoga and meditation overlooking the Elk Mountain Range at 11,212 feet.

This is the first year Shakti Shala will be offering classes five days a week, welcoming beginners and advanced practitioners, locals and tourists alike.

We asked owner and visionary — Jayne Gottlieb — to tell us all about it.

Tell us about your mountaintop yoga classes, why did you decide to create these offerings?

A vision long ago established by the forefathers of Aspen (was that) Aspen is a destination for those seeking a mind, body and spirit connection.

For me, one of the things that sets our yoga program apart is our commitment to create a yoga experience on the top of the world, addressing notions of individual pure potential, connection to each other and the planet, and empowering students to create the life of their dreams without holding back!

We have purposefully designed the program to offer students a complete quintessential Aspen experience.

What is your favorite part about practicing at the top of the mountain?

One of my favorite parts about teaching and practicing outside with 360-degree views — and the essence of freedom being impossible to ignore — is that the experience very quickly puts into perspective the frivolousness of our own little dramas, that we all run in our daily lives. Just being up there makes it really easy to ground into truth and be inspired by the magic of the universe. Its an incredible sensation to really feel like you can touch spirit and feel the connectedness of all beings everywhere. We can all feel it on the mountaintop, and that is why it is such a special experience.

What can people expect from the experience?

People can expect to find a moment of freedom from their every day lives and a profound sense of peace from within — isn't this at least part of what we are all seeking? It's one of the easiest ways to get there, and why this has been a hugely popular offering since its inception several years ago. We are thrilled to be expanding and evolving the program to meet the raising awareness of consciousness that is happening around the globe. In Aspen we aim to be at the forefront of this movement and pledge to do all we can to make offerings such as this accessible, fun, and an unforgettable part of your Aspen experience.
