What is POW?

POW stands for Protect Our Winters. Protect Our Winters is a passionate crew of diehards, professional athletes and industry brands mobilizing the outdoor sports community to lead the charge towards positive climate action. POW focuses on educational initiatives, political advocacy and community-based activism. POW’s mission is to engage the snowsports community in the fight against climate change.

Aspen Snowmass Employee Uniforms

While zipping around the mountain, you may notice the POW logo on many of our employee’s uniforms. This is our way of wearing our values on our sleeve. Walter Paecpke founded Aspen Skiing Company, and reinvented Aspen, as a place where people could escape their usual lives, be exposed to new ideas, and go back into the world to help create a better society. Putting POW (Protect Our Winters) on our uniforms is an extension of that idea. We hope our uniforms spark conversations with guests and among employees, and helps drive a climate movement.

Environmental Foundation + POW

Aspen Skiing Company has been an avid supporter of the Protect Our Winters campaign, with our Vice President of Sustainability, Auden Schendler, serving as the current Board Chairman. Together as an industry, we have helped create a movement to lobby Congress to take action on climate change. Our partnership unites our company in this effort, sparks conversations with guests and among employees, and helps drive a climate movement.

What does it mean to Give A Flake? It means caring enough to back up our beliefs with action. So when our business depends on the wonders of the natural world, we defend them. When our employees and guests are diverse in their ethnicities, sexual orientations, and belief systems, we stand up for tolerance. When our community faces challenges to its health and well-being, we help fix what’s wrong.
