The Ultimate Ski Trip Packing List
Need something you forgot to pack? Visit any of Four Mountain Sports or Aspen Collection retail locations.
Ski And Snowboard Clothing
The Tip:
Remember to pack lots of warm layers, as the weather conditions on the mountains can change quickly and dramatically. We suggest avoiding cotton when layering, as it traps moisture, dries slowly, and can leave you feeling cold on the slopes.
If you forget something, stop in one of the conveniently located Four Mountain Sports stores, or our Aspen Collection locations, located across the towns of Aspen and Snowmass, and at all four of our mountains.
The List:
- Jacket – 1 to 3 waterproof ski jackets
- Pants – 1 to 3 waterproof ski pants
- Additional insulation – down or fleece vest
- Base layer tops – 2–4 moisture-wicking tops (merino wool or synthetic)
- Base layer bottoms – 2–3 pairs of thermal leggings or long underwear (merino wool or synthetic)
- Gloves & mittens – waterproof and insulated ski gloves or mittens
- Sweaters – 1 to 4 fleece or wool sweaters
- Warm winter hat
- Socks – 3 to 4 wool ski socks
- Neck gaiter – non-cotton balaclava or ski mask

What should I pack for a ski trip?
For a ski trip to Aspen Snowmass, pack waterproof outerwear, moisture-wicking base layers, warm mid-layers, ski socks, gloves, goggles, and a helmet. Don't forget sunscreen, lip balm, and comfortable winter boots for exploring off the slopes. Be sure to secure your lift tickets and ski or snowboard rentals before your trip, too.
What clothes do I need for a ski trip to Aspen?
Pack a waterproof ski jacket and pants, thermal base layers, fleece or wool mid-layers, ski socks, insulated gloves, and a warm hat. For time off the mountain, bring sweaters, jeans, and waterproof winter boots. Forgot something? Stop by Four Mountain Sports or explore Aspen Collection for mountain apparel and accessories.
What should I wear skiing to stay warm?
The key to staying warm while skiing is dressing in layers. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add a fleece or insulated mid-layer, and finish with a waterproof, wind-resistant jacket and pants. Avoid cotton, which retains moisture and can leave you feeling cold on the slopes.
Do I need to bring my own ski gear or can I rent it in Aspen?
You don't need to bring your own equipment! Four Mountain Sports offers ski and snowboard rentals across all four Aspen Snowmass mountains, with complimentary overnight equipment storage and mountain-to-mountain transfers. What should I pack for après ski in Aspen?
Après-ski style in Aspen is all about mountain comfort with a little personality. For casual on-mountain gatherings, you can head straight from the slopes in your ski gear. For après in town, pack cozy sweaters, warm jackets, jeans, and comfortable winter boots. Explore our Aspen Snowmass Après-Ski Guide to find the perfect spot to unwind after a day on the mountain.
How should I dress for dinner in Aspen?
Aspen's dining scene embraces mountain casual style, so formal attire is rarely necessary. Sweaters, jeans, stylish winter layers, and boots are appropriate for many restaurants, while upscale dining spots offer an opportunity to dress up a bit. Be sure to bring a warm coat for chilly evenings.
What is the most commonly forgotten item on a ski trip?
Sunscreen and SPF lip balm are two of the easiest essentials to overlook when packing for a ski trip. Aspen's high elevation and abundant sunshine make sun protection especially important, even on cloudy winter days. Forgot yours? Stop by Four Mountain Sports to shop for mountain essentials.
