Explanation of Events
Patrol Beacon Park: The Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol has a new state of the art BCA beacon park located just east of the safety tent at the top of the silver queen gondola. There will be a patroller stationed there from 11:00am to 1:00pm every day of safety week. The purpose of this is to create an opportunity for people to practice with beacons in the park while having patrol there to help with any questions they might have. Patrol will supply practice beacon, probe and shovel to simulate an avalanche burial recovery.
Safety Tent: The safety tent will be located at the top of the silver queen gondola, next to the guest service center daily during safety week. The tent will have avalanche dogs, stickers, and safety materials from the National Ski Patrol. There will also be an opportunity for people to take their picture with the avalanche dogs as a memento of safety week. Also at the tent will be a snowcat, and a snowmobile that guests can get a close look at, and patrol will answer any questions.
Avalanche Dog Demo: Daily at noon one of the Aspen Mountian Ski Patrol Avalanche Dogs (Zoot or June) will locate and recover a buried victim in a simulated burial across from the safety tent area at the top of the Silver Queen Gondola.
