The Grand Opening Celebration

December 15

The anticipation is palpable around the Roaring Fork Valley. After years of planning and months of construction, the unveiling of the Snowmass Base Village is just around the corner. The new features and attractions — plus the end of the long wait — makes December 15 a worthy day for celebration.

Whether it will snow or be a bluebird afternoon and evening, we can't tell just yet. But some things are for certain: there will be a lot of live music, a holiday pop-up market, lots of free food, discounted drinks and a spectacular fireworks display. Oh, and true to the new identity of the base: ice skating and rock climbing demonstrations!

Bring the whole family or your posse of friends. Here is the day's lineup:

Ooh and ah. Climb. Skate. Shop. Eat. Drink. Be merry! The grand opening celebration is your chance to see the new Snowmass Base Village.

It all begins with live music at 2:30pm, culminating with the Bud Light HiFi Concert featuring Karl Denson's Tiny Universe. This saxman and vocalist offers a unique mix of soul, rock funk, blues and jazz that will keep you moving to take away the winter chill.

By 5pm, the Grand Opening Celebration gets underway. The new Limelight Hotel Snowmass features a 54-foot rock climbing wall that mirrors popular climbs in the Aspen Snowmass area. Professional climbers will be on-hand scaling the enormous wall in a demonstration, and then you can take to the wall to challenge your own climbing skills. Nearby, the new ice skating rink will also feature a demonstration hosted by Olympic skater Paul Wylie as emcee. After the show you can take to the ice yourself. The ice skating rink is free and open to the public all winter long.
Also at 5pm, the all-new cultural center called The Collective will open its doors with a Pop-Up Holiday Market running until 8pm. Pick up holiday gifts and goodies from local and regional brands, retailers, and artisans including Woodland, Lululemon, Anderson Ranch, Hollyann, All Things Sweet, Gibson Collective and Scout & Cellar.

Next, satisfy your winter cravings with free food and discounted drinks at The Lounge inside the Limelight Hotel Snowmass. Try their iconic pizza popularized at the Limelight Hotel Aspen, or try mini-crepes from Crepe Shack or stop by the S’mass S’mores cart.

Finish the night in the plaza where the ever popular DJ Naka G will keep the celebratory vibe going throughout the evening, leading up to the fireworks finale.
