There are a lot of moving pieces to the 2020-2021 ski season, but we are grateful to be back on snow and can't wait to see you on our mountains (from a distance and behind masks). With guest and community safety at the top of our priority list, we have made many operational updates and technological improvements. But, even with new safety precautions, you can still have a fun and rejuvenating experience at Aspen Snowmass this winter. Even, or maybe especially, in these uncertain times, there are still plenty of ways to make trip planning painless!

Here are five tips to plan a ski trip to Aspen Snowmass in 2020-2021.

1. Consider amenities that make your trip easy

As the incident rate and other metrics trend lower, as of February 13, all on-mountain restaurants will be be open at 50% capacity or 50 people, whichever is less. This will allow more people to dine inside when the weather dictates. We still recommend preordering meals and taking advantage of expanded outdoor seating on decks, in open air tents and in public spaces for dining. An easy alternative to on-mountain dining is lunch back at your hotel or condo. Consider stocking up on lunch meat and sandwich accoutrements and breaking up your day with lunch at your lodging. Snowmass offers a large selection of ski-in/ski-out and walk-to-the-slopes accommodations, complete with all of the amenities to make your vacation extra memorable, including kitchens. The amenities of Terracehouse Condominiums might just be what you're looking for.

2. Think location, location, location

There are a lot of questions that come into play when you’re trying to decide where to stay for your visit to Aspen Snowmass. Should you stay in Aspen, Snowmass Village or further downvalley? Will you have a car or will you be relying on public transportation? Right now, do you want to be able to dine out while you’re visiting? Is something such as being in walking distance to Aspen Mountain or able to skiing home in Snowmass a top priority for you? We suggest you first decide on a budget and then think about which mountain or mountains you plan to ski most. If you will need transportation to the mountains, check our local RFTA bus schedules and lodge shuttle options before committing to staying in Aspen with plans to mostly ski Snowmass or vice versa, for example. If you want to be close to the action of Aspen, but still enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains, Aspen Meadows is a unique resort.

3. Understand local health and safety regulations

Did you know that towns of the Roaring Fork Valley actually belong to different counties and with that, they have different COVID-19 restrictions? Aspen and Snowmass belong to Pitkin County, Basalt sits in Eagle County and Carbondale and Glenwood Springs sit in Garfield County. Along with indoor dining being closed right now in Pitkin County, overnight visitors to Pitkin County are also asked to get a COVID-19 test prior to arrival and only travel with their own household. If you are driving, have a car readily available and know that you want to enjoy dining out during your vacation, consider staying elsewhere in the valley such as Element Basalt-Aspen in Basalt.
