It only seems like yesterday that we were kicking off the season and preparing for the 50th anniversary celebrations of Snowmass. The 2017-2018 season may have gone by in a blink of an eye, but we'll remember every moment.

We hosted a phenomenal line up of events, from X Games Aspen and the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix to birthday parties for Snowass (50 years!) and the Environment Foundation (20 years!). And let's not forget the massive 6+ feet of snowfall in February, our highest February snowfall since 1995. The snow may have had a slow start early on, but it certainly delivered at the end.

Hopefully you got out and enjoyed the season as much as we did. We look forward to seeing you back at Aspen Snowmass this summer!

Here are some of the biggest highlights of the year.

Unforgettable Performances

Shaun White's Perfect 100

Whether its at X Games Aspen or the Winter Olympics, snowboarder Shaun White has always had a flair for the dramatic. So when he entered the halfpipe at Snowmass during the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix — a precursor to the Winter Olympics — spectators were expecting big things.

They just didn’t expect a perfect score of 100.

The halfpipe run added to his legendary status as the best competitive snowboarder in history, and set the stage for his gold medal in PyeongChang a few weeks later.

Alex Ferreira’s Silver Medal

On the year’s biggest sporting stage — the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang — Aspen local and Aspen Snowmass athlete, Alex Ferreira, threw down a spectacular run in the halfpipe to win a silver medal in PyeongChang.

Ferreira had to battle back from a surprise showing from 16-year-old New Zealander Nico Porteous, who surpassed Ferreira on the podium in the second round. Ferreira’s third run was the clincher, and for a time he had the gold medal in sights until fellow American David Wise squeaked by him in the third and final run. But for the 23-year-old Ferreira — who trains at Aspen Snowmass — he more than accomplished what he set out to do.

BUD LIGHT HIFI CORE PARTY featuring SPOON

This year's Bud Light HiFi Core Party on March 30th was headlined by the acclaimed indie-rock band Spoon. At the corner of Cooper and Galena streets, revelers rejoiced as the band played through a roaring set of old and new songs to close out our annual Bud Light Spring Jam.

Snowmass' 50th Anniversary

We kicked off the year with a special commemoration of Snowmass' 50th anniversary. On Friday, December 15, celebrations commenced with an après ski party at the Snowmass Base Village and the Elk Camp Retro Party. By Saturday, things were kicked up a notch with the return of Banana Days and the 50th Anniversary Golden Gala at The Viceroy — all of it capped off with fireworks over the mountain.

The Uphill Breakfast Club

The uphilling community in the Roaring Fork Valley continues to thrive, and this year, we decided to offer a new event to encourage more skiers to skin up and ski down at Buttermilk.

On Fridays throughout the season, The Cliffhouse offered a special breakfast to uphillers and their friends which we called the Uphill Breakfast Club. What did skiers earn for their hard work? Thick-cut French toast, breakfast fried rice with a farm-fresh egg, and bacon ... bacon ... bacon. We're looking forward to making it a tradition next year.

Continued Progress on Sustainability

Throughout the year, Aspen Skiing Company continued to make progress on being a more sustainable and responsible company. Some of our highlights include:

• Provided testimony in support of a statewide effort to close two coal-burning power plants and replace them with renewable energy.
Tested electric snowmobiles for next season. We will be one of only a few ski resorts worldwide using early models.
Expanded composting efforts to the Limelight Aspen Hotel, The Little Nell, our 117 Aspen Airport Business Center office location and The Hideout.
$30,000 (each) given to community organizations in the Roaring Fork Valley and Ketchum, ID through the Caring for Community Fund and the Limelight Ketchum Community Fund — both in their first years of operation.

We also reached a significant milestone with the Environment Foundation celebrating its 20th anniversary. To date, it has donated $3.2 million to 530 organizations in the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. In 2017-18, we will donate more than $220,000.

And Something Else to Look Forward to

Limelight Hotel Snowmass

Next year, the Snowmass Base Village will have a new ski-in/ski-out hotel — the Limelight Hotel Snowmass. We're excited to developing this long-awaited property, and we know that guests of the Limelight Hotels in Aspen and Ketchum will recognize many of the Limelight's signature amenities, such as The Lounge, superb après-ski specials, a guest-only breakfast to power-up your day, and pet-friendly policies.

But there will also be a few unique Snowmass twists, such as the new skating rink in the plaza. Vacations at Snowmass are only going to get better!
