Summer Lodging Guide

by Susan Linden
Many who call Aspen Snowmass “home” have been known to say “I came here for the winters but stayed for the summers.” Ah . . . summers. Warm days, cool nights and more events and activities than you can count. And, if Aspen Snowmass is your vacation destination this summer, there are many lodging options to choose from. Luxury hotels, affordable hotels, boutique condominiums, amenity-rich condominiums, private single-family homes, centrally located or tucked away accommodations and everything in-between provide options to suit your summer vacation style and budget.
Let’s take a look at the notable standouts in the summer lodging experience -- the coolest pools, the most family-friendly spots and lodges with the best outdoor dining experiences.

Everybody In (Or Around) The Pool!

Summer fun for many begins with a pool--with children laughing and playing in it and adults lounging around it soaking up the sun or reading in the shade. First of all, Snowmass is known for its great pools. Guests at the Villas at the Snowmass Club have access to the club’s four pools—a lap pool, family pool, adult pool and children’s wading pool. Not to mention, two outdoor hot tubs and two indoor hot tubs.

The Lounge at the Limelight Hotel is a social hub in Aspen. With brick oven pizzas and reasonably priced drinks, it’s the place to be from 3—7pm each day. Patios on the terrace and poolside are hopping throughout the summer.

The summer experience is not complete without lunch under an umbrella at Ajax Tavern with its bistro-style dining and slopeside patio. Ajax Tavern is one of two restaurants at The Little Nell. The acclaimed Element 47 also offers alfresco dining.

Family-Friendly Lodging

“Vacation condos offer a different experience from hotel stays,” noted Alex de L’Arbe, Marketing Director at Frias Properties which manages 200 Aspen vacation rentals including 30 luxury single-family homes with up to 7 bedrooms. “They are gathering places to share the day’s adventures. Many have wood-burning fireplaces. ”

Families staying at the Chateau Eau Claire condominiums managed by Frias can gather around the large pool and hot tub while taking in views of Aspen Mountain. Since these are river frontage condos, Dad can test his fishing skills on the Roaring Fork River.
