Environmental Policy and Third Party Certifications

Aspen Skiing Company's Environmental Policy describes our long-term commitment to sustainability.  It is posted throughout the company.

ISO 14001Aspen Skiing Company was the first American ski resort to achieve this prestigious international third-party certification of our environmental management program. (Our friends at Jackson Hole were 2nd, and nobody else has followed suit.) ISO 14001 means ASC and Jackson meet strict standards for continuous improvement in the management of their environmental impacts. "ISO 14001 was a necessary next step for Aspen Skiing Company," says ASC President/CEO Mike Kaplan. "We have become very good at project-level environmental work, but we became concerned that we weren't necessarily creating systemic change within the organization. ISO is the best way to integrate environmental management company wide, and, frankly, it's also a feather in our cap."

The Colorado Environmental Leadership Program encourages and rewards superior environmental performers that go beyond the requirements of regulations and work toward the goal of sustainability.  To qualify as a Gold Leader, entities must have a clean compliance history, have in place a fully operational Environmental Management System, demonstrate past achievements and set continual environment improvement goals.
