Nature Programs

Join naturalists from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) for a free nature hike or walk at Snowmass or Aspen Mountain. Naturalists will share tips on wildflowers, tracking animals, observing birds and understanding the sub-alpine community.

Aspen Mountain Hike

ACES naturalists lead these free, 45-minute walks along Richmond Ridge from the top of Aspen Mountain. Learn about the native trees, birds and animals that thrive in the high-alpine environment, as well as mining history on the mountain. The hike covers 1 mile and only 100 feet in elevation gain, making it a great introduction to hiking in the Rockies.

Tours meet at the top of the gondola (gondola ticket purchase required) on the hour from 11am–3pm.  

Snowmass Rabbit Run Nature Walk

Let a naturalist from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) guide you on a walk through the beautiful subalpine forest, while learning about local plants and wildlife. Offered daily from 11am to 3pm. Each walk is roughly 2 miles in length (with 200 feet in elevation gain) and takes only 45 minutes. 

Meet at the top of the Elk Camp Gondola (gondola ticket purchase required).

Snowmass Nature Trail Walk

Join an ACES naturalist for an easy guided walk through a paradise of wildflowers. Learn about local ecology as you stroll through glades of aspen trees and subalpine coniferous forest. Offered daily at 10am. Each walk is roughly 3.5 miles in length (with 400 feet in elevation gain) and takes only 2 hours. 

Meet in the Snowmass Village Mall.
