Campgrounds near Independence Pass

Difficult Campground – 4 miles southeast on Hwy. 82. It has 47 campsites. The season ranges from May 15–September 27. Elevation is 8,180 feet. It has access to fishing and hiking. It also has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. It can accept a trailer up to 40 feet. Reservations required. 

Weller Lake Campground – 9 miles southeast of Aspen on Hwy. 82. It has 11 campsites. The season ranges from May 22–September 27. Elevation is 9,400 feet. It has access to fishing and hiking. It also has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Unfortunately, trailer space is limited. 

Lincoln Gulch Campground – 11 miles southeast on Hwy. 82, along Lincoln Creek, past the gulch. It has 28 campsites. The season ranges from May 22–September 27. Elevation is 9,800 feet. It has access to fishing and hiking. Unfortunately, it does not have any vault toilets, water or trash facilities and trailer space is limited. First–come, first served basis. 

Lincoln Creek Campground – 11 miles southeast on Hwy. 82, then a half of a mile on Lincoln Creek. It has 6 campsites. The season ranges from May 22 - September 27. Elevation is 9,600 feet. It has access to fishing and hiking. It also has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. It can accept a trailer up to 16 feet. First-come, first-serve basis. 

Lost Man Campground – 14 ½ miles of Aspen on Hwy. 82. It has 10 campsites. The season ranges from May 22–September 27. The elevation is 10,500 feet. It has access to fishing and hiking. It also has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Unfortunately, trailer space is limited. First-come, first-served basis.

Campgrounds Along Maroon Creek Road

Silver Bar Campground – 5 miles southwest of Aspen on Maroon Creek Road. It has 4 campsites. The season ranges from May 22–September 27. Elevation is 8,460 feet. It has no fishing access, but it does have hiking access. It also has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Unfortunately, it does not accept trailers. Reservations required. 

Silver Bell Campground – 5 miles southwest of Aspen on Maroon Creek Road. It has 4 campsites. The season ranges from May 22–September 27. Elevation is 8,490 ft. It has no fishing access, but it does have hiking access. It has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Unfortunately, it does not accept trailers. Reservations required. 

Silver Queen Campground – 5 miles southwest of Aspen on Maroon Creek Road. It has 6 campsites. The season ranges from May 22 - September 27. Elevation is 8,680 ft. It has no fishing access, but it does have hiking access. It has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Unfortunately, it does not accept trailers. Reservations required. 

If you should decide to build your own camp site, camping is prohibited within 100 feet of all trails, streams, and lakes. You must be out of sight when camping in open areas. Stoves are required above timberline in the alpine tundra. For more information, you may contact the Aspen Ranger District at 970-925-3445.

PUBLIC SHOWERS

The Aspen Recreation Center — a.k.a. ARC — has their shower facility open. Hours are Mon.–Fri., 9am–7pm; Sat.–Sun., 11am–6pm. Admission fees vary by time. Visit the ARC’s website for more information or call 970-544-4100.

RV INFORMATION

A few things to note regarding RVs in Aspen:
  • Trailers or motor homes that are more than 35 feet in length are prohibited from traveling on Hwy. 82 over Independence Pass.
  • The City of Aspen does not allow people to spend the night on city streets. For more information, contact the Aspen Chamber Resort Association 970-925-1940.
  • The closest RV park to Aspen is the Aspen-Basalt Campground in Basalt on Hwy. 82. For more information, call 970-927-3405.
