Black Diamond Expedition

Long seen as a gold-standard for expert terrain, Aspen/Snowmass naturally offers a lesson focused on conquering black-diamond terrain with confidence — our multiday Black Diamond Expeditions.

Offered at: Snowmass

Why Join a Black Diamond Expedition?

  • Because you’ve got a black diamond attitude and aptitude. Join some of our top ski Pros on Aspen/Snowmass’ most challenging terrain and learn ways to improve your technique and build confidence on the steeps.
  • Over the course of three days, you will learn: Insider tips on the best snow conditions and terrain openings straight from ski patrol; tactics for off-piste terrain; techniques for choosing the best line; moguls, steeps, trees and deep powder techniques.
  • Offered January 5, 2015–March 17, 2014, beginning on Mondays and running through Wednesdays. Extension days are available if 3 or more students in the group decide to extend the fun for an additional day (cost is $149 per person for the fourth day).
  • Each lesson runs from 8:30am–2:30pm. See below for Day 1 meeting places.
  • Reservations are highly recommended.
  • If possible, get your lift tickets and rentals the day before.
  • Please contact the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center at Snowmass for special early morning arrangements for parents who are in the clinic and have children participating in lessons at Snowmass.
  • Note: Beginner skiers and snowboarders should take Beginner’s Magic Lessons. Advanced beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders should take Adult Group Lessons

Geared for:

Adults ages 18 and up, expert skiers.

  • Meeting Place: Base Camp Restaurant in the Snowmass Base Village Plaza (8:30am)

What’s Included

  • Three days of consecutive full-day lessons.

Policies & Special Considerations

  • Rentals – If renting equipment please allow a minimum of one hour to get fitted on your first day, or if your schedule allows, pickup your rentals the evening before your first day on the slopes. Four Mountain Sports rental shops are located at nine locations throughout the bases of our four mountains and include the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center at Snowmass as well as the Panda house at Buttermilk.
  • Helmets – Helmets are required for children ages 17 and under participating in all Ski & Snowboard Schools programs. Helmets are also required for all participants, regardless of age, when participating in Terrain Park & Pipe lessons. While helmets may reduce the severity of a head injury, the best way to avoid accidents is to know and abide by the skier/rider responsibility code.
