Company Information / Environmental Commitment / Policies and Management / Overview

Aspen Skiing Company's Environmental Policy describes our long-term commitment to sustainability.  It is posted throughout the company to remind employee's of this commitment.

ISO 14001Aspen Skiing Company has become the first American ski resort to achieve this prestigious international third-party certification of our environmental management program. ISO 14001 means ASC meets strict standards for continuous improvement in the management of its environmental impacts. "ISO 14001 was a necessary next step for Aspen Skiing Company," says ASC President/CEO Pat O'Donnell. "We have become very good at project-level environmental work, but we became concerned that we weren't necessarily creating systemic change within the organization. ISO is the best way to integrate environmental management company wide, and, frankly, it's also a feather in our cap."

Aspen Skiing Company is a member of EPA's Green Power Partnership, and a recipient of a 2005 Green Power
Purchaser Award for On-Site Power Generation. The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary partnership between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and organizations that are interested in buying green power. The goal of the Green Power Partnership is to facilitate the growth of the green power market by lowering the cost and increasing the value of green power. A strong green power market will support new, clean technologies that will reduce the environmental impact of electricity generation. By offering high quality information on green power options, by supporting organizations making green power purchases, and by recognizing Green Power Partners, the EPA is working to expand the green power market.

The Colorado Environmental Leadership Program encourages and rewards superior environmental performers that go beyond the requirements of regulations and work toward the goal of sustainability.  To qualify as a Gold Leader, entities must have a clean compliance history, have in place a fully operational Environmental Management System, demonstrate past achievements and set continual environment improvement goals.
