How close did the helicopter get to the action while shooting the Snowmass segment for "The Art of Flight"? Real close. -Dave.
WALTER NIEDERMAYR: THE ASPEN SERIES The Aspen Series by Walter Niedermayr was commissioned in 2009 by Paula and Jim Crown, partners of Aspen Skiing Company. They are the first works produced in the U.S. by the internationally acclaimed photographer. The combination of Niedermayr’s photography and the epic mountain scenery is a visual tour de force. Even long time Aspenites remarked that they ‘saw the mountains anew’ through Niedermayr’s work.
The Aspen Skiing Company and the Crown Family are mission-driven to provide the best skiing and snowboarding experience for you, our guests. Since it’s founding in 1947 the Aspen Skiing Company has been committed to the renewal of the mind, body and spirit, and appreciation of our place in the natural world. The Aspen Series continues that tradition. This innovative, slopeside exhibit is another one of the many reasons to make Aspen/Snowmass your vacation destination. THE ARTIST Walter Niedermayr was born in Bolzano, Italy in 1952. Niedermayr began photographing the landscape in 1987 and is recognized worldwide for his distinctive visual vocabulary’s use of multi-panel images and subtle color.
THE EXHIBITION
Look for Walter Niedermayr's artwork across all four mountains, and in some other unexpected places as well. In Aspen, look for work at the Sundeck, in the Benedict Room, the Terrace Bar at The Little Nell, The Little Nell lobby, and The Limelight Hotel. In Snowmass, look for work at Sneaky's Tavern, the Snowmass Gondola Ticket Office, the Treehouse Kids' Adventure Center, and Elk Camp. At Highlands and Buttermilk, the Merry-Go-Round, The Cliffhouse and Bumps. A Walter Niedermayr work is also on loan to the CSCUSA offices in Denver.
SEASON PASSES Inspired by our partnership with Aspen Art Museum, Aspen Skiing Company continues the theme of art in unexpected places by printing unique contemporary art images on lift tickets for the sixth consecutive year. Niedermayr’s unique image of the famous Highland Bowl from The Aspen Series is printed on 2010-2011 season passes. Please click here for information regarding Walter Niedermayr's new book.
