How close did the helicopter get to the action while shooting the Snowmass segment for "The Art of Flight"? Real close. -Dave.
Where to Go on a Powder Day at Aspen/Snowmass
Powder on the mountain is a little bit like whipped cream on ice cream — it makes a great thing even better.
But with a little more than 5,500 skiable acres across our four mountains, you might be burdened with too many choices on your next powder day at Aspen/Snowmass. Here are a few game plans for finding sublime fresh tracks on each mountain, and remember, if you really want to take advantage of the best snow at the start of the day, inquire about our First Tracks guided runs at Snowmass and Aspen Mountain.
Snowmass
Choose this mountain if … you want to find stashes of powder all day long.
Game plan for advanced skiers: Make your way to the top of the High Alpine lift. From here, head down The Edge and veer off into Hanging Valley Glades for prime stashes of powder on expert terrain.
Game plan for intermediate skiers: Make a bee line to the top of the Big Burn lift via the Village Express lift and Max Park. From here, you’ll be spoiled for choice on Whispering Jesse, Wineskin or Mick’s Gully. Jack of Hearts can have some prime powder as well.

Aspen Mountain
Choose this mountain if … you want to see what all the fuss is about with its legendary steeps and glades.
Game plan for advanced skiers: Warm up on North Star from the top of the Silver Queen Gondola, return via the Gent’s Ridge lift, then make your way to Hanging Tree or Face of Bell for excellent powder skiing in the glades.
Game plan for intermediate skiers: Ruthie’s Run is a perennial favorite for locals, but if you’re seeking powder, take only its upper part to Upper Roch Run, hit Gene Reardon’s Run, connect back to Lower Roch Run and then bring it home on Strawpile.

Aspen Highlands
Choose this mountain if … you love skiing on a quiet run with nothing but the sound of your own breathing as you shred the pow,
Game plan for advanced skiers: You mean besides Highland Bowl? Any of the terrain off the Deep Temerity lift — try Kessler’s or Boomerang Woods — is stellar on a powder day. If you like tight corridors of powder, seek out Sherwood Forest.
Game plan for intermediate skiers: You’d be hard-pressed for a better first run after a big snowfall than taking the Hayden and Meadows from the Loge Peak lift. But the left side of Golden Horn and Thunderbowl are a pretty close second.

Buttermilk
Choose this mountain if … you want to carve sublime turns in the morning, and then give the terrain park a workout in the afternoon.
Game plan for advanced skiers: Take the Tiehack Express to the East Summit of Buttermilk. Timber Doodle Glade and Ptarmigan Glade often hold enormous mounts of powder among the trees, especially after an overnight storm.
Game plan for intermediate skiers: Hop on the Summit Express, negotiate down the short-but-sweet upper section of Savio, veer over to Buckskin and cut through to Ptarmigan before linking back up with Buckskin to the base.
