The NEPSA Awards are a chance to check out some creative shorts from local and regional crews that have an emphasis on fun. Don’t miss the show so you can cheer for your favorite video and help them win some of the $3,500 in prize money!

The NEPSA Video Awards returned to the Wheeler Opera House on Thursday, September 27 and offer athletes and filmmakers from the region an opportunity to showcase their talents and compete for a cash prize. Athletes are invited to create multimedia presentations using music, video, photography and other mediums, while incorporating one of the following themes: Before Aspen, First Chair, and Duct Tape to Diamonds.  Winners take home a share of the $3,500 prize purse.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION:

  • Submissions should be turned in by TBD (in mid-September)
  • Depending upon the final number/length of pieces actually submitted, it may be necessary to hold a pre-event elimination (i.e. no one is guaranteed that their piece will actually be shown). There will be minimum production standards expected. 
  • Some censorship standards will apply. Do not show or imply any drug use. (there are kids on the audience) Minimal drinking is okay, but smoking anything but a cigarette is not permitted. Damn and shit are okay. NO F-Bombs. NO Nudity.
  • The event does not provide any help with production costs or travel/lodging expenses.
  • You do not have to appear at the event in order to submit a piece. We encourage everyone to attend and bring an entourage for cheering, but it is not a requirement if you have a scheduling conflict.

RULES:

  • Submissions must be between 3 – 5 minutes
  • Your film must include skiing or snowboarding but can include other sports in addition if you choose.
  • Your piece must include the featured rider doing something other than skiing or riding.
    • The winning videos done in the past that included a story line told by the featured athlete. Humor goes a long way with the judges.
  • Submissions must incorporate one of the three themes: Dawn Patrol, Apocalypse, Sunday Funday.
  • Submissions MUST incorporate the following mediums:
    • Video 
    • Original Writing/Original Music            

JUDGING

  • There will be no separate categories for ski/snowboarding etc. Each submitted piece no matter what theme was incorporated, will be judged the same; There will not be separate categories for each theme.
  • $3,500 in prize money will be awarded as follows: $2K for first, $1K for second and $500 for third.
  • To be judged a piece must:
    • Incorporate one of the selected themes for the year
    • Use original writing, music, and/or video outside of skiing/riding
    • Feature athletes doing something other than skiing/riding
    • Be submitted by deadline
    • Fall in the 3 – 5 min time period
  • Judges will assign points on a scale of 1 – 10 on overall impression based on the following:
    • Creativity
    • Quality of Editing
    • Music choice
    • Quality of content
    • Overall stoke of judges

DEADLINES AND FORMAT

  • Deliver your film on disc in quicktime (.mov) native resolution. Remember that everything has gone to 16:9 aspect ratio. Call me with any questions.
  • The segment must be 3 – 5 minutes. The 5-minute maximum time allowed must include credits for anyone you wish to acknowledge who helped you with the piece.  Please stick to these guidelines. If your piece is over 5 minutes either judging points will be deducted or it will be returned for reediting.  
  • Your final edited piece must be delivered no later than TBD (in mid-September).
