Top 10 Things for Kids in Aspen/Snowmass

 

Aspen/Snowmass, Colo…Aspen/Snowmass offers a variety of activities that appeal to all family members when on vacation. There are an array of options available for kids to enjoy on and off the mountain.

 

 

1.       The Treehouse Kid’s Adventure Center at Snowmass- A one-stop-shop for trendy kid’s outerwear, lift ticket purchase, rental and Ski & Snowboard School check-in. The center also boasts children’s entertainment from a family-friendly climbing gym, to teen activities, to a host of themed rooms like Eagle Peak, a multi-purpose room for all ages or the Bear Den for the younger crowd with a puppet-show theatre and napping loft.

 

2.       New 12 foot halfpipe in Snowmass – Every aspiring terrain park athlete has to begin somewhere!  Catering to all levels, Snowmass has a variety of terrain parks to suit anyone’s skill level. New this year is the 12 foot beginner’s halfpipe located in Low Down terrain park.

 

3.       Kid’s Mountain Guide – Use the guide to find trails marked specifically for kids. Like Fort Frog, a western-style fort, home to Buttermilk’s Children’s Adventure Center. Explore the deep trees on Snowmass’s Prospector’s Trail. As always, kids ages 6 & under ski/ride for FREE on all four mountains.  

 

4.        NASTAR Race Course- Feel the need for speed? Looking for a little friendly competition? Head up to the public on-mountain NASTAR Race Course, offered on all four mountains where souvenir pins are awarded for first through third places, and not to mention bragging rights!

 

5.       Winter Wild Things – Learning how to make a snow cave or identify a winter wonderland’s furry creature are only a few of the things offered in this Ski & Snowboard School program. Other activities include winter survival skills, leave no trace tactics, and tracking the incredible wildlife of the Aspen/Snowmass area.

 

6.       The Aspen Recreation Center “The ARC” is home to an NHL-size ice skating rink, two pools, including a lap and diving pool, two-story water slide, lazy river and spray features, a 32 foot tall climbing tower, and more. www.aspenrecreation.com

 

7.       The Snowmass Recreation Center Built within the last 4 years, this contemporary building boasts 18,000sf of pure, indoor fun. Home to bouldering and climbing walls, a gymnasium, aerobics rooms and a state-of-the-art cardio room, the fun continues outside. Using a mild salt water + fresh water mixture in these chlorine-free, saline pools. 8.       Storytelling, Sing-a-Longs and Kid’s Krafts – A few steps from The Treehouse Kid’s Adventure Center, kids and parents can cozy up by the fire-pit for Storytelling and Sing-a-Longs and Kid’s Krafts which continue throughout the week, and are FREE, at the Snowmass Base Village.

 

9.       Ice Skating - Bundle up and lace those skates for a glide around the rink; Aspen/Snowmass offers both indoor and outdoor skating facilities. Indoor rinks include the state-of-the-art Lewis Ice Arena at the ARC (Aspen Recreation Center), The Aspen Ice Garden, located in downtown Aspen at the corner of Hyman and 2nd Street. Both indoor arenas host a variety of classes and pick-up hockey games. For a truly fun winter-wonderland skating experience, enjoy the outdoor rink at the Silver Circle, covered with dazzling Christmas lights and festive music. Located across from Rubey Park at the base of Aspen Mountain.

 

10.   X Games Terrain Park and Pipe - The very best skiers and riders in the world descend upon Buttermilk Mountain each year to compete in the granddaddy of winter action sports events: the ESPN Winter X Games. The terrain park and pipe is open for the public to enjoy after this annual epic event. To shred the same features as some of the world’s greatest ski and snowboard heroes, this is an experience to be had for skilled terrain park lovers.
