WHY IT'S GOOD TO BE A DOG IN ASPEN/SNOWMASS

Aspen/Snowmass, CO… It is said there is a dog for every two people in Aspen/Snowmass.  Well, the dogs are in the right place, because in this town they are treated like royalty. Dogs can spend their day cross-country skiing or snowshoeing with their owner, meeting other dogs in the park, shopping a bit and snoozing in a five star, five diamond hotel.  Not bad for a dog.

POSH CANINE LODGING

Recognizing the growing trend of pet-friendly travel, many Aspen/Snowmass hotels now allow pets in their guestrooms.  At The Little Nell, Aspen"s only five star/five diamond hotel, pets are welcome and owners receive a Petiquette handbook of guidelines for pet and pet owners. Amenities include personalized brass identification tags, plush dog beds, pet menu selections, food and water bowls and of course, doggie treats.

Other hotels that welcome dogs in town include The Sky Hotel, The St. Regis and The Hotel Jerome. Also check with Stay Aspen Snowmass reservation to get a complete listing of dog-friendly accommodations. http://www.stayaspensnowmass.com/ or 1-888-649-5982.

ENDLESS TRAILS FOR SKIING, SNOWSHOEING & HIKING

The groomed Marolt and Rio Grande trails of the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System are great for the dogs because of their gentle terrain and open spaces. In 2002 the Bernese Blvd. trail on the Perimeter of the Aspen Golf Course trail system was opened and the Maroon Bells Road and Independence Road are also hip spots for four-legged creatures. Dog-friendly trails that are easily accessible from town include the Ute Trail, the Hunter Creek Trail, the Ajax Trail, and Smuggler Mountain Road. Leash requirements vary on different trails; for more information and rules, check with the Aspen Ranger District (970.925.3445).

DOGS BY THE HOUR

The Aspen Animal Shelter understands the desire for a dog, but not the full-time commitment to one.  So, the organization will lend you a pup free of charge for a few hours or the whole day. And if you can’t tear yourself away when the time comes, adoptions are possible (970.544.0206).
