Women to Watch Team Switzerland Sonja Nef - (April 19, 1972)...4 World Cup wins...she’s coming off the best season of her career, which got off to a slow start when Nef underwent five operations on her knees in the late ’80s and early ’90s...she didn’t ski between the ages of 17 and 21 - "my knees were too broken," she says...and Nef had a third operation on her right knee in ’96...a strong slalom skier - her first win came in SL at Sestriere during the ’96 season - she’s become an outstanding GS racer...last winter, Nef took the season opener in Tignes and followed with GS wins in Are and Sestriere...attacking style... Corinne Rey-Bellet - (Aug. 2, 1972)...3 World Cup wins...she like Austria’s - Rey-Bellet’s first two World Cup wins were in St. Anton (she’s got to feel good about where this winter’s World Championships will be held) when she swept a DH and super G during the ’99 season...and last season she won a DH in Altenmarkt...she skis primarily DH/SG but has been a top-10 giant slalom skier, too, including two top-10s last season...a training crash saw her tear an ACL in September ’96, erasing her ’97 season...Dad’s a ski instructor...
