Women to Watch Team Canada Allison Forsyth - (Oct. 14, 1978)...One of the surprises of last winter, Forsyth is primarily a giant slalom skier - she was second in both Lienz and Cortina and had four other top-10s, finishing fifth overall in GS...she also nibbled at slalom, finishing 37th overall...she’s the Canadian national slalom and GS champ... Melanie Turgeon - (Oct. 21, 1976)...1 World Cup win...Canadians have been looking for big things from "Mel" since she won an unprecedented five medals at the 1994 World Junior Championships at Whiteface outside Lake Placid as well as the Europa Cup overall title...last season, Turgeon rewarded those who waited with the best racing of her career, including her first win (in a super G at Igls, outside Innsbruck)...a four-event skier as a teenager, Turgeon has become DH/SG racer in the last few seasons...she concedes "distractions" sideswiped her progress on the World Cup for the next few seasons, but she’s made major progress since the start of the ’98 Olympic season, primarily in downhill but occasionally flashing her all-round skill in SG...
