Chevy Truck Super Series Includes Aspen - Nov. 26-27

The 2000-2001 Chevy Truck Super Series schedule lists thirteen alpine races for both men and women to be run throughout the U.S., with most of the action televised nationally. Aspen is on the roster for women’s Super Series super G races November 26-27, immediately following the women’s World Cup races.

Entering its third year, the Chevy Truck Super Series opened Nov. 11 at Loveland, Colo. and will make stops at premier resorts in Utah and Colorado, including Deer Valley, Park City and Snowbasin, Utah and Aspen, Beaver Creek and Winter Park, Colo.

The Chevy Truck Super Series is the highest-level, season-long international alpine ski racing series in the United States, a stepping-stone series to the World Cup - similar to AAA baseball. It provides greater opportunities for younger skiers to compete away from the World Cup, while offering top-level athletes the choice to ski when they are not participating in a World Cup event.

"USSA has made great progress in developing the Chevy Truck Super Series over the past two years," said USSA Vice President of Athletics Alan Ashley. "It’s developed as a strong proving ground for our young athletes and a showcase for the best skiers on the U.S. Ski Team, as well as top international World Cup racers."

Athletes will compete for a total prize purse of $100,000 over the 13-event season. The prize breakdown is $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second and $500 for third. Series points will be handed out according to the following: First place-30 points, second place-29 points, third place-28 points, down to 1 point for the 30th place finisher.

An overall Super Series champion will be crowned for both men and women at the finals. The champions will be awarded $10,000. The men’s finals, which will be a FIS event but not part of the Nor Am Cup, will be held March 30-31 at Deer Valley, while the women’s will be March 16-18 at Snowbasin.

Last season, 16-year old Julia Mancuso (Tahoe City, CA) won the women’s overall title at Deer Valley. Canada’s Anne-Marie Francois finished in second and Alison Powers (Winter Park, CO) was third. Canadian Cameron Culbert took the title on the men’s side, with Brett Fischer (Winter Park, CO) finishing second and Travis Svensrud (Bozeman, MT) taking third.

Outdoor Life Network will air 28 hours of Chevy Truck Super Series coverage. Broadcasts will begin Feb. 8, 2001 and be aired every Thursday at 9 p.m. EST through March 22, with four total airs per week.
