ON-MOUNTAIN IMPROVEMENTS AND ADDITIONS

Aspen Skiing Company invested $10 million in major capital improvements for the 2004/2005 season at Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk.

BUTTERMILK

New High-Speed Quad Chair for West Buttermilk

Continuing Aspen/Snowmass' commitment to family skiing and riding, a new high speed quad chair will replace the existing West Buttermilk chair (the second oldest lift on the four ski areas). The new lift will have a mid-way load station, allowing beginners and young children to do laps on the gentle trails of West Buttermilk. The new lift will have a vertical rise of 1,189 ft., with a ride time of six minutes (four minute ride time from the mid-way load station) to the top. The new chair cuts the ride time in half, as the existing fixed grip chair (installed in 1965) has a ride time of 12 minutes.

Ride What the Pros Ride

This year the features from the ESPN Winter X Games X will remain in tact in the Crazy T'rain Park at Buttermilk for the duration of the season!

ASPEN MOUNTAIN

Replacement of F.I.S Chair (Lift 6)

This summer the F.I.S. lift on Aspen Mountain, the oldest chairlift at Aspen/Snowmass' four ski areas (installed in 1958), will be replaced with a new double chair. The new lift will follow the same lift line as the existing F.I.S. chair - with a vertical rise of 591 vertical feet. Significant improvements include smaller lift terminals at both the top and bottom, opening up more terrain at Spar Gulch, Ruthie's and International trails. The F.I.S. lift has a rich history and holds great affection by the Aspen community.

ASPEN HIGHLANDS

Winter 2005-06 - Opening of Deep Temerity*

Over the last two years, Aspen Highlands has experienced the most growth of all the four ski areas at Aspen/Snowmass. In response to this rapid growth in skier visits, Aspen Skiing Company is taking the next step into study and design of lift expansion on the northeast facing slopes of Deep Temerity (skiers left of Highland Bowl). For years now, Aspen Highlands has continually pushed the boundaries for ski area improvement with such expansions as the opening of the entire Highland Bowl (in 2003). Planning for future expansion into Deep Temerity is the next step in the dream. Expansion will include an additional:

  • 270 acres added to Temerity, Steeplechase, and Highland Bowl
  • 850 more vertical feet added to Steeplechase/Temerity
  • 1050 additional vertical feet added to Highland Bowl

    ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

    Micro-Hydro Power Plant at Snowmass

Aspen Skiing Company introduced a micro-hydroelectric power plant at Snowmass in July 2004. The micro-hydro power plant, a first in the ski industry, uses the resort's existing snowmaking system to channel spring water runoff through a turbine, generating electricity. The system should generate 250,000 kilowatt hours of energy annually, which is comparable to powering 40 homes per year and preventing a half-million pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted. If this micro-hydro plant proves successful, ASC would replicate it at its other three ski areas with the potential to power 400 homes.

    Snowmass Golf Clubhouse

Following in the footsteps of the award-winning Sundeck restaurant atop Aspen Mountain, the new Snowmass Golf Clubhouse is one of the greenest commercial buildings in the state of Colorado. It was in 2000 when the Sundeck was one of 11 buildings in the world to achieve environmental certification through the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

    LUXURY LODGING & SPAS

    The Residences at Little Nell

Nestled at the base of Aspen Mountain, The Little Nell blends the virtues of a country inn with the indulgences of a grand hotel. In winter 2006 look for the opening of The Residences at Little Nell, a fractional ownership complex to be built to the right of the Aspen Mountain gondola. This luxurious development will include 24 apartments offering shops, a restaurant, ski in-ski out access, ski lockers and a roof top pool and spa.

    St. Regis Aspen Spa

The "new" St. Regis Aspen is opening late November 2004 with a brand-new 15,000-square-foot luxurious spa and a new wing of the St. Regis Residence Club. There will also be 20 new guestrooms and suites and all existing guestrooms will receive receiving a complete makeover with new appointments and furniture.
